Ela Motors has launched two new models of the 8th generation Toyota Hilux in Port Moresby.
The 8th generation Hilux began production in 2015 and was first launched in PNG in Nov 2015.
Transport Minister Wesley Nukundj and other guests were invited to the Ela Motors Waigani dealership where the new models – the Hilux Rally and the Hilux Platinum – were unveiled.
Ela Motors chief executive Keiichiro Kuwabara said 2018 was a significant year for the Toyota Hilux as it marks the vehicle’s 50th anniversary.
“It was first released in March 1968, the Hilux has been of global success as the world’s and PNG’s favorite Ute,” he said.
National sales manager Chris Von Oppeln said the models came with added modern features.
“We are taking the Hilux to the next level to make the vehicles more advanced and improve the driving pleasure,” he said.
“A lot of them are cosmetic changes to make the vehicle look more advanced and improve the driving pleasure, such as a reverse camera, improved touch-screen audio system enhanced with Bluetooth and it will also access your emails off your phone if you have a compatible phone.”
Von Oppeln said the Hilux Rally was equipped for off-road driving while the Platinum, although just as powerful as the Rally, was equipped for in-town driving.
“The Rally is rugged, tough and will drive hard but still very comfortable and luxurious inside,” he said.
“The Platinum is dressed up to go to the ball.”
The Hilux Rally is priced at K168,000 while the Platinum is K178,000.
Nukundj said the Government appreciated the service Ela Motors provides in the country and praised the company for complying with their corporate social responsibility.
