HOKI brothers Junior and Sam will lead a Corporate Touch Port Moresby outfit as the team look to dominate proceedings during the national touch championship in Popondetta, Northern this Easter weekend.
The duo will make their presence felt on the national stage, coming a long way since their outing as teenagers in the Sabama touch competition in the Port Moresby.
Veteran Eugene Eka said the Hokis would be guiding the team along with Bobby Vavona and Freddy Gelam.
“We have the combination as we have played together for some time with OTS Tribes,” Eka said.
“We missed the championship last year and it’s good to be back for this important outing with the best on the park.
“We are aware of our opposition Lae Corporate and hosts Popondetta who were last year’s grand finalists.
“These two teams will provide us a stiff opposition and we should prepare well to overcome any obstacle.
“This is going to be tough and we are not underestimating any teams as they are all coming to perform and win.
“We have the players but we need to play as a team with good attacking and strong defence especially in the fast ruck department. Meanwhile, provincial administrator Trevor Magei said Northern was ready for the opening ceremony tomorrow at the Robinson Oval.
Magei, who is the Popondetta Touch Association patron, said visiting teams were expected to arrive in the province this week.
They will be expecting teams from the Highlands, New Guinea Islands, Mamose and Southern regions with a Queensland-based team prior to the opening ceremony.
