THE Pacific International Hospital in Port Moresby is offering mothers special medical treatment this week.

The Well Woman Check will allow mothers to access pap smear tests, pelvis ultrasound and breast ultrasound plus their reports.

Chief executive officer Ramanand Patnaik said the pap smear screening tests were aimed at preventing the progression to cervical cancer by detecting potential pre-cancerous and cancerous processes in the female reproductive system.

“Unusual findings are often followed up by more sensitive diagnostic procedures and if warranted, interventions that aim to prevent progression to cervical cancer.

“A breast ultrasound does not use X-rays or other potentially harmful type of radiation.”

The Well Woman Check promotion will run from May 6 to 11 at the hospital.

PIH will also be checking mothers for any eye-related defects and problems at its Eye Care Outlets in Vision City Mega Hall (Waigani), Waterfront Food World (Habour City) and Champion Parade (Down Town).

There will also be free dental checks for all mothers throughout this week.

The hospital is offering a special fee on all CT scans as part of the Mother’s Day promotion.

CT scan combines a series of X-ray views taken from many different angles and computer processing to create cross-sectional images of the bones and soft tissues inside your body.

“Mothers are the backbone of any society ad we should be grateful for their contribution,” Patnaik said.

“This PIH initiative is a tribute to the mothers for their contribution towards the nation. These offers are made keeping in mind the mothers and encourage them to come forward and take benefit for these services at PIH.”

Patnaik said mothers could only take care of their families if they themselves were first healthy.
