PORT Moresby General Hospital records 1,200 to 1,400 baby deliveries a month, says a doctor.
Obstetrics and gynaecology coordinator Dr Mary Bagita said this yesterday during a presentation of Christmas gifts to mothers and babies at the hospital.
The presentation was made by the Heads of Mission Spouses and Friends in partnership with Prime Minister James Marape’s wife Rachel.
The group donated care packages at the obstetrics and gynecology division.
Dr Bagita said the hospital was the only public hospital that delivered babies from Central and Gulf.
She said the gifts would be given to mothers and babies from under privileged backgrounds.
Bagita said about 100 to 140 babies were born premature each month and were kept at the nursery so the blankets, pillows and bed sheets would be used there.
The hospital chief executive officer Dr Paki Molumi said the hospital was the busiest because it delivered on average of 40 babies a day.
