CHINESE navy hospital ship Ark Peace will depart Port Moresby shores today having treated hundreds of people, carried out 36 surgeries and had 36 admitted in hospital over the last week.
Medical officers from the ship worked alongside Papua New Guinea staff and in emergency medical drills yesterday in front of Health Secretary Pasco Kase and a few PNG Defence Force officials.
This was followed by lectures on important emergency rescue skills.
Mission commander Rear Admiral Guan Bailin firmly believed that “our cooperation will deepen.”
“The military exchange and cooperation between the two countries will improve mutual understanding and consolidate our friendship,” Bailin said.
“I hope that the friendly relations between the two militaries will last forever.”
Kase said the visit by the ship for the second time was a plus for the country’s military and health professionals.
“I was very impressed, it is through practice that we will do things better, a lot of times we do not see disasters or emergencies but when they come they take us by surprise,.” Kase said.
“I have learnt that a lot of Papua New Guineans had benefitted from the health services that have been provided to the city of Port Moresby and its people.
“I am so grateful that the cooperation and relationship between our two countries, especially in medical services, will go a big way,” he said.
Currently, a 10-member Chinese medical team is working at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
