ANGAU Memorial Hospital in Lae is expected to introduce a biometric time and attendance system next month, chief executive officer Grant Muddle says.
According to Muddle, the system would ensure staff’s faster payments of allowances, enable leave applications to be processed efficiently and to better monitor the production of staff.
He said the system would also hold staff accountable for the quality and timely dispensation of healthcare services to the public.
He said the system would also help manage and track shift workers as per the agreements with awards.
“When this system comes into play, it will ensure accountability of financial management, staff management, safety and fair pay for fair work as we merge Angau and the provincial health teams into the provincial health authority,” Muddle said.
He said the biometric system allowed for the automatic and immediate calculation via computer system known as award interpreters.
The system would work out what allowances and penalty rates were due to an employee based not only on the hours worked but also time of the day the shift covered and the day of the week and other information.
