Hospital to scale back patients’ treatment

THE Mt Hagen hospital will scale back the treatment of patients with minor illness as it focuses its staff and resources on the coronavirus threat, Western Highlands health authority acting chief executive officer Jane Holden says.
Holden said people exhibiting symptoms of minor illnesses would be advised to go to their nearest health centres.
“This is because the hospital is currently in preparation mode to prevent and contain the spread of Covid-19 should there be a confirmed case in the province,” she said.
She said the Mt Hagen hospital would attend medical and surgical emergencies and trauma cases.
She reminded the public that in relation to trauma cases as a result of tribal fighting, there would be a compulsory fee of K300 for a patient to be seen.
Holden said the same fee would also be required for people injured as a result of domestic violence.
“Do not come to Mt Hagen hospital with minor issues because we are in an alert preparation mode for Covid-19 patients,” she said.
“Your rural or urban health facility will assist you.”
