THE community and administration of Nazarene Health Ministries in Jiwaka have thanked the people of Australia and United States for partnering to build quality housing for their staff.
The K5.5 million Fair Housing and Water Improvement Project at Kudjip Nazarene Hospital was completed on Friday and a commissioning ceremony was held on Saturday.
The event was witnessed by United States Ambassador to Papua New Guinea Catherine Ebert-Gray and two of her team members, Australian Aid representatives, Nazarene Health Ministries staff, construction workers and the surrounding tribes of Kuma and Sekaing.
Hospital administrator Dr Scott Dooley said the Fair Housing and Water Project built 32 houses, four doctors’ houses (for four new America missionary doctors), six duplexes (for 12 nursing officers), 16 single family houses (for nursing officers), and one smaller doctor’s house.
“We also built four toilets and shower blocks in ancillary houses to give all employees access to clean drinking water, toilets, and showers.“
He said K2.5 million was from Australian Aid, USAID K2 million and the Nazarene K1 million.
