Housing officer in Lae determined to help tenants facing problems

National Housing Corporation manager in Lae Andrew Augwi wants tenants having problems to come forward to work with the commission so necessary steps can be taken to find the solution.
He spoke to tenants during a presentation of six titles to tenants yesterday under a “Give Away” scheme. About 4000 titles are to be given away.
Augwi said the commission would not forcefully evict tenants if there was collaboration.
Meanwhile, NHC legal officer Matthew Limu said the legal team had been working hard to protect the interests of tenants.
“We have been trying to assist tenants with their rights to properties in order for them to purchase them but at times people have not been up to date with paying their rentals,” Limu said.
He urged those tenants who came across people collecting fees outside NHC to report the matter to them so that they could work together to solve the problem.
Limu said it was not always the NHC failure to comply with processes and procedures, rather tenants were also at fault with that.
