Housing project back online

THE Duran Farm housing project at 9-Mile, in Port Moresby, will resume next month, says National Housing Corporation (NHC) managing director Kenneth Cooke.
He said the project was initiated by the government to address housing shortage in the city but due to a number of technical and funding issues, the previous management put it on hold.
“The current management has identified the issues and taken appropriate measures to address them,” Cooke said.
“The management is now confident the project should re-commence late February or early March.”
Cooke said the project was expected to deliver 3500 houses at affordable prices to public servants and other citizens.
“The country is facing serious concerns about housing shortages,” he said.
“Most of the NHC housing stock was built and left behind by the former Australian administration and since NHC came into existence in 1990 through the NHC Act of 1990, there has been very little funding for new projects.
“We hope this project will help address the housing issues in the city.”
Cooke said other similar projects had been identified and earmarked for development.
