How to kill two birds with one stone

THE police should look at buying a few sets of breath-analysers to fight drink driving.

Apart from reducing the problem, they would be surprised at how much revenue this can bring in.

Being a former policeman from Australia, I can tell you that you can purchase a simple set for about K70,000 with testing equipment for six months.

The tricky part is the legislation.

However, with Prime Minister Peter O’Neill at the helm, no legislation is a problem here, it seems.

You can make at least K5 million a year per set of equipment and outlay will be about K10, 000 per year.

Does it not sound great for the cash-strapped police department?

These are realistic figures, administration not considered.

The number of boozed up people I have seen on the road in my short term here is disgusting.

It is a wonder that PNG’s death and crash toll is so low, but that is another matter and due to bad roads which prevents speeding.

As the roads get better, watch out.

You can kill two birds with one stone with the breath-anaylser.

Earn significant revenue for the department with the equipment and cut back on drink and driving.
