High Performance Sport PNG has pledged to support the Papua New Guinea Bodybuilding Federation in preparing athletes for the national championships in June.
During the launching of PNG Bodybuilding Federation’s annual plan yesterday, High Performance Training Centre talent pathway coordinator Cornelius Papau said the centre would help the National Capital District-based athletes and give them access to all their services.
Papau said they had agreed to work closely with PNGBBF to get the athletes back in shape before the championships.
“We have the right kind of equipment in the gym which will be needed by the athletes to train and we have our own physio who will check their training status,” Papau said.
“We are happy to help the federation in preparing its athletes.”
He said the HPTC was happy to give the best to the athletes as some of them were Pacific champions.
“During the Pacific Games in 2015, our athletes (bodybuilders) won five gold medals with the help of HPTC,” he said.
“Thus, we are now happy to make them happy and make their national event in June come alive.
“Unlike other sporting codes, bodybuilding is lucky to have HPTC’s backing in terms of service support.”
Papua New Guinea Bodybuilding Federation vice-president Jacob Kom said the sport was dependent on gymnasium equipment and they were very thankful for the access to the HPTC’s training facilities.
