HQ refutes ‘appointment’

POLICE headquarters were not aware of new appointments of the provincial police commander in Enga and Jiwaka on Monday, Assistance Commissioner of Operations Donald Yamasombi said.
“We are not aware of new changes and there are no new police heads,” Yamasombi said.
He told The National that the reports that Sr Insp Epenes Nili was the new Enga provincial police commander taking over from outgoing Supt Joseph Tondop, who had taken up the PPC post of Jiwaka, was misleading.
He said changes would only be done at headquarters and not other places.
He said Jiwaka provincial police commander Insp Gideon Kauke was still in his position.
Kauke said reports about the appointments were not true.
“I have not received any formal letters from headquarters and I am still the Jiwaka PPC,” Kauke said.
The appointments were reportedly announced by Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas during the signing of a memorandum of agreement between his government and University of Goroka to open a branch in Enga.
