Hubby stabbed, wife guilty

A woman who stabbed her husband to death with a kitchen knife over an argument about food, was found guilty by the Waigani National Court on Friday.
Theresa Kamo Mathew, mother of two and a resident of Konedobu in Port Moresby, appeared before Justice Panuel Mogish.
“I am satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that the State has established her (Mathew) guilt beyond reasonable doubt. I find her guilty as charged to the offence of murder,” Justice Mogish said.
The court heard that on Nov 9, 2015 at around 7pm, the husband, Kassman Karo, had arrived home from work. He went into the house and asked his two daughters if they had cooked any food since he was hungry.
His daughters told him that there was no food because the money he gave to buy food was used to buy drinks by their mother (Mathew). Mathew took the money to Hanuabada village and bought homebrew and drank.
It was alleged that Karo got very angry and beat Mathew up outside their house. He was an asthmatic so while beating his wife, Karo ran out of breath and paused near a breadfruit tree to catch his breath, the court was told.
That was when Mathew took out a kitchen knife and cut Karo’s face before stabbing him on the left side of his chest.
Karo staggered into the house and collapsed and his daughters rushed him to the hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.
Justice Mogish said the medical report from the hospital said Karo died as a result of a stab wound to the left ventricle of his heart. The case continues in September for sentencing.
