HULA Lighthouse Cricket Association is planning to host an offseason competition for Under-15s and U19s from next month to December.
Association president Siniva Siniva said they had seen more interest in the sport with many potential talents capable of making the national squads.
He said the association had a history of producing national players, including Kumul Petroleum Papua New Guinea Barramundis batting all-rounder Jason Kila.

“We are excited for our players who have made it to the national teams (Barramundis and Garamuts) as well as other raw talents we have in the village,” Siniva said.
“There are many talents here, we’ve got representatives like Kila Pala and Jason Kila, who are from Hula.

Siniva said the sport had sparked interest among women as well and he was looking to make cricket more inclusive for women.
“One of our women cricketers, Uve Noka, was selected and is now part of the Lewas (national women’s team) train-on-squad,” said Siniva.

“Since my appointment as president earlier this year, I’ve made it my aim to use the sport to help persuade youths to refrain from alcohol and drugs.
“We plan to improve next season by seeking more sponsors to help create a pathway and showcase young talents in the village.”
