More than 1300 people have registered with the Port Moresby City Rangers Association to clean and provide security at bus stops in Port Moresby.
The association launched last Friday could be engaged by the National Capital District Commission and suburbs in Port Moresby to keep the city clean.
Founder James Silas said the association would try to keep the city clean and free from crime.
Meanwhile, city manager Benard Kipit said NCDC was not aware of the association as the city ranger group was banned from performing duties on behalf of the commission.
Silas said the association was registered with Investment Promotion Authority and the registered members had printed yellow T-shirt uniforms.
Association member Monica Tiki said more than 600 women registered to clean the city and to provide security at the bus stops.
She said the number was expected to grow as more women and youths joined.
She said the group would volunteer to clean and conduct awareness on Thursdays on the importance of keeping the city clean and safe.
“The team will start cleaning on Thursday morning and Friday at Gordon bus stops and provide security,” he said.
