ABOUT 500 people have completed a two-week small-medium enterprise (SME) training organised by the Lae City Authority.
The authority and the Tok Stret Consulting Ltd Lae SME Incubator Hub ran the training.
Facilitator Julliane Terry told The National that the participants were taught about business management. Topics included the changing of habits, managing finance, how to run a business, building relationships, how to market business and time management.
Terry said the business management training was to help participants start whatever informal business they were interested in.
“In the group, you will see many intelligent people who have the energy,” she said.
“The training is help them run their business.
“The four sessions opened up their minds on how to manage the little start-up funds they will receive for their small-to-medium projects.”
The National Development Bank, commercial banks, Investment Promotion Authority and Internal Revenue Commission will help set up the SME programme.
Terry said many intelligent people lived in the community who lacked the opportunity to learn those skills.
