Hunt continues for Biru escapees

The Correctional Services (CS) operation to recapture prisoners who escaped from Biru jail is continuing, with one escapee surrendering, jail commander Teddy Beaga says.
Beaga commended the Jegarata community for their support in handing Rendy Kesiko to CS.
He wants the people of Northern to cooperate and help recapture the 16 who are still at large.
“I would like to commend the family of Rendy Kesiko who assisted to surrender him. That kind of attitude shows that they are law-abiding people,” he said.
“The Jegarata community has assisted us and we are now calling on the other communities who are harbouring other prisoners to bring them in.
“It is the festive period and communities will only find peace if they surrender these prisoners to us.
“We cannot guarantee the safety of the people so anyone who is harbouring those people must inform the CS to recapture these inmates. It is best for the prisoners to surrender because we are still looking out for them.
“These prisoners are already under the custody of the State so they will have to return them to us.”
Beaga said the 10-day operation for the recapture of the prisoners, which started on December 11, had lapsed.
“We may have a joint operation with police for identity purpose because 10 days is up and we have not captured all,” he said.
“It is the first time that we have not captured any and there are indications that it could be an inside job.”
