SP PNG Hunters coach Matthew Church says his players are excited to face the Burleigh Bears at the Cbus Super Stadium as the curtain-raiser for National Rugby League (NRL) round 15 fixture between Gold Coast Titans and Manly Sea Eagles on Sunday.
Church told The National yesterday that the match would be an opportunity for the Hunters to showcase their talents in front of NRL officials. “Any further exposure of our PNG talents is a great opportunity for our people, it’s what the Hunters programme was created for,” Church said.
“For this game, there will be a lot of NRL staff in attendance on the ground and it would be a great exposure for our players.
“The players are really excited, the boys love watching NRL games on TV and to be able to play at a stadium where their heroes play is a great experience and to do so before an NRL game adds to that excitement.”
Meanwhile, Church was thrilled with Solo Wane’s length-of-the-field try last week which went viral on social media after Fox League uploaded the video.
“That was outstanding, Brandon Nima needs a bit of credit for passing to him in space in his own in-goal.
“Solo’s one of the quickest Hunters, so it’s good to see him in clear space to show the speed he has.
“He is still learning to play at this level and needs to continue to progress parts of his game.
“We’d like to see more involvement from Solo and the rest of our outside backs, to help out our hard working pack.”
