PORT Moresby will host a triple header of rugby league matches on Sunday at the National Football Stadium.
Headlining the day is the Q-Cup round 20 fixture between the PNG Hunters and the visiting Mackay Cutters at 3pm.
Two round 10 Digicel Cup matches have also been scheduled with competition leaders the Lae Tigers taking on cellar dwellers the Port Moresby Vipers in the second match while the Hela Wigmen face the Goroka Lahanis in the opening match at midday.
A junior fixture between the Hunters Academy U20s and a Port Moresby Rugby League U20 side will start off proceedings.
The Hunters squad had a week off for their round 19 bye and returned to camp last Friday.
They also took part in a fan day last Saturday as well a boat trip to Fisherman Island off the coast of the Port Moresby. Hunters coach Michael Marum, pictured, said his squad had used the extra week off to rest and recuperate as well as spend some time with family but now they were back in camp and focused on finishing the last six rounds well including maintaining their number one position on the Intrust Super Cup ladder.
In the Digicel Cup fixtures, the Wigmen are on a high after travelling to Lae last week and upsetting the Tigers 16-10 in their own backyard.
Their match against the Lahanis, who are also coming off a 20-8 win over the Agmark Gurias, pits two confident sides meeting on neutral territory in what is expected to be an exciting opener for the day’s major fixtures.
The Tigers are expected to win the curtain-raiser against the Vipers. Coming off a loss to the Wigmen will see the Digicel Cup’s No.1 side keen on reasserting themselves at the expense of the lowly Vipers, who have yet to win a game this season.
