Hunters look for coach

THE SOUTH Pacific Brewery-sponsored Hunters have begun their search for a head coach following Michael Marum’s final appearance in the role at the Queensland Rugby League Awards night in Brisbane, Australia, on Friday.
The pioneer Hunters coach and former Kumul leaves the post after being at the helm of the 2017 Queensland Intrust Super Cup premiers for six years. Former Agmark Rabaul Gurias coach Marum will now continue his role as the national coaching director on a fulltime basis.
According to the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL), Marum’s successor will be responsible for planning and directing recruitment, conditioning, training and performance of players and football operations staff, along with physical programme management for the Hunters programme.
PNGRFL said a mandatory requirement for the role was NRL Level Two coaching accreditation.
Digicel Cup premiership-winning coach Stanley Tepend (Lae Snax Tigers) and former Hunters assistant coach Nigel Hukula are potential replacements but it remains to be seen whether they’ll put their hand up.
PNGRFL said the role was open to PNG citizens and non-citizens, opening up the prospect of the Hunters securing a coach from outside the country for the first time.
Applications for the role close on Oct 15.
