Hunters make changes

THE PNG Hunters have been forced to make three changes to their side for Saturday night’s clash against the Central Queensland Capras.
Forwards Robert Mathias and Valentine Richard were scratched from consideration as they have been unable to get visas clearance in time while reserve hooker Trevor Solu was found guilty of a crusher tackle in the 36-22 win over the Wynnum-Manly Seagulls and has been replaced by youngster Finley Glare who is one of three debutants in the game day 17.
Debutant back-rower Junior Talin comes in for fellow rookie Mathias and Koso Bandi, who was solid off the bench last week, replaces Richard in the front-row.
Manisa Kai is the third fresh face and slots onto the bench.
Coach Paul Aiton said he was reluctant to make changes to his side after a strong start in round 1 but conceded the unavailability of the trio provided opportunities for other players.
“The two players with visa issues will be sorted out and they will be cleared soon, it’s something to do with the technical aspect of it and some checks,” Aiton said.
“Maintaining a winning team is good for consistency-wise but then we have a really tight group and this situation gives the opportunity for three more players to make their debuts.
“I’m confident with players we’ve named in the team and I’m sure the three debutants will do a good job.”
Aiton said his men are looking forward to facing the Capras and were aiming to maintain the winning momentum.
“Positive signs from our win last week but it’s just the penalty count that was the worry so discipline and sets completions is key.
“We have a good relationship with the Capras, I also know their coach (Julyess Jarvis) personally but really looking forward to go against them.
“We had our video session today (yesterday) and we watched their (Capras) game from last week. But for us we just have to execute what we’ve been learning in training.
“I’m satisfied with the players we have, they are all talented and they can compete, they can score points anywhere, but it’s down to discipline and completion, that’s it.”
