MAINTAINING discipline during off season is a part of being an elite athlete says Sports Vice-Minister Wesley Raminai.
The SP PNG Hunters have bowed out of the Q-Cup however the government of the day through the Sports Ministry encouraged the elite athletes of the Hunters to maintain discipline during the off season.
Raminai made these comments during the recent Hunters awards presentation night to ensure members of the Hunters uphold their values and principles as role models to young people in the country.
“Now most of the players will be on holidays and have the freedom to do what you please, however, you must continue to uphold the principles of an elite athlete because that is who you are,” Raminai said.
“The discipline that you practise while in camp shouldn’t only be confined to being a member of the Hunters establishment.
“While you are on your own, this is when it becomes truly significant because the self-discipline you practise will prove that your time with the Hunters has developed you into a professional footballers.
“If you observe these principles, you will be adequately ready for an immediate call-up for coach Michael Marum’s the 2019 squad,” Raminai said.
