BRISBANE Broncos coach Kevin Walters invited the SP Hunters to Red Hill on Thursday to see the National Rugby League (NRL) club train ahead of Magic Round.
Hunters general manager Scott Barker told The National on Friday that the Queensland Intrust Super Cup side toured Brisbane’s facilities and also had a training session at Red Hill.
“We were invited by coach Kevin Walters to watch a Brisbane Broncos training session yesterday (Thursday),” Barker said.
“We then trained ourselves after the Broncos had finished.
“At the end of our session, the players and staff were lucky enough to be taken on a tour of the Broncos new facility by Broncos welfare manager Adam Walsh.
“The boys had a good time and it was a good experience for them.”
Barker said the Hunters had the opportunity to meet Brisbane’s PNG internationals in David Mead and Xavier Coates.
“Yes, the Hunters got to meet and spend some time with Mead and Coates,” he said.
The Hunters and Broncos lost their matches on the weekend.
Broncos were punished by Manly 6-50 while the Hunters recorded their fourth loss of the season, going down to Brisbane’s feeder club Souths Logan Magpies 14-48.
For the Hunters yesterday, the game was in the balance when they went into halftime trailing 10-12.
However, the Mathew Church-coached side couldn’t contain the Magpies as the hosts scored six second-half tries to the Hunters’ one to claim victory. Three Hunters’ tries were scored by Emmanuel Waine, debutant Solo Wane and Jokadi Bire.
