The PNG Hunters visited four selected schools in Port Moresby yesterday to meet with students as part of their Education Week awareness programme.
The four schools were Koroboro International, Gordon International, Holy Rosary Primary and St Peter’s Primary.
The Hunters players were divided into four groups to visit the schools.
During the visit, the players were given the opportunity to advise the students on the importance of education and they themselves got to understand their responsibility as role models to schools and communities.
Gordon International School selected their Grade 6 classes to host PNG Hunters team members Stargroth Amean, Butler Morris, Charlie Simon, Patrick Morea, Julius Yakopa, Clyde Osie and head trainer Solomon Kuliniasi.
Kuliniasi addressed the students and explained the Hunters’ core values.
“In the Hunters camp we have our core values with the initials RATS which stand for respect, accountability, team work and sacrifice,”Kuliniasi told the students.
“In the team players come from different parts of Papua New Guinea but they all respect each other.
“In camp we also practice accountability where every person is accountable for their actions.
“And team work is also important where we get to work together and work for each other. “We also understand what it means to sacrifice and become better people in the team and that is why we are successful.
“So the core values are important to us and if you students can apply these similar core values in your education, you will become successful too.
“Four years of the Hunters programme has seen 53 players come out of 300 boys and that is how tough it is to be part of the Hunters,” Kuliniasi said.
