THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) has announced that the SP Hunters will officially be a separate entity from the governing body with former SP boss Stan Joyce to head the new Hunters board this year.
PNGRFL chairman Sandis Tsaka yesterday confirmed that the restructure in the Hunters management would see the newly established board take over the responsibilities of the team when it departs for Australia on Jan 31.
“Today marks a new chapter in the story of the Hunters, this year’s team will be the first Hunters team that will be participating under a new entity under the leadership of Stan Joyce,” he said.
“The new SP Hunters entity has been properly incorporated in PNG and Australia which is in preparation for the new 2021 Intrust Super Cup (ISC) season.
“They (the new board) will take full charge of the team when the team departs on Jan 31, the SP Hunters will be a separate corporate entity but PNGRFL will be working closely with the new board to ensure that the programme continues to create the pathway.
“Part of the work we did around the SP Hunters last year was to restructure the club going forward, building from the experiences from the previous seven years,” Tsaka said.
“To make the Hunters more successful and sustainable, we had to restructure the Hunters to become an independent entity.
“SP Brewery has been a long-term partner for the sport and the way they’ve stuck with us last year has given us motivation and the drive to prepare the team.”
Tsaka said the new board had the backing from the PNGRFL.
