A HUSBAND has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a man he claimed had been following his wife at Kavieng in New Ireland, police say.
Acting provincial police commander Senior Inspector Gabriel N’Drihim said the husband had noticed the man following his wife around town and confronted him.
The incident happened at about 11am on Tuesday.
N’Drihim said the man was following the married woman from the market to the main shopping centre when the husband accosted him.
“It is a small town so the market and the shopping centre is just a walking distance,” N’drihim said.
“The husband and some members of the public then brought the man to the police station where the matter was resolved peacefully. We then let everyone go.”
He was commenting on a version of the incident on social media which claimed that the husband was assaulted by members of the public after chasing his wife with a knife, and later taken to the police station.
