THE National Agriculture and Quarantine Inspection Authority (Naqia) presented new uniforms to the Ialibu Hawks for their Ipatas Cup campaign starting next week.
Managing director Joel Alu said during the presentation of the uniforms at Taurama Barracks Oval in Port Moresby on Friday that it was not their first time to sponsor rugby league teams.
“Naqia has been helping youths on the streets in the past to promote their abilities,” Alu said.
“We have been doing this for the last five years when I was in office, and sponsored teams from Boroko and Erima.
“Naqia has an important mandate to manage pests and disease in the country but we also have community obligation to make sure that we partner with our communities to ensure that youths participate meaningfully in sports and other activities.”
Alu said Naqia would help the team with further assistance in the form of coolers and other gear.
Meanwhile, team manager Graham Rama thanked Alu for presenting the uniforms to the players.
“The Hawks are comprised of boys from Ialibu who live in Port Moresby,” he said.
“For the last four years, we tried hard to form the team without sponsors. Today, we are happy that we have Naqia to back to us.”
Rama said the side had been training and looking forward to the Ipatas Cup and having new uniforms would give the players a boost.
