A REVIEW of the coastal shipping industry has been postponed to next year, according to the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC).
ICCC commissioner and chief executive officer Paulus Ain said it initiated the review early this year to address the industry’s market structure and efficiency.
A discussion paper was released on April 25 to gauge comments from stakeholders.
“Several submissions received by the ICCC raised a number of critical issues in the industry that are relevant and applicable in PNG’s domestic shipping industry,” he said.
“Some of the concerns raised relate to institutional bench-mark practices, sabotage, labour-supply needs, subsidies and oversight of freights, infrastructure demand, competition and costs.”
The ICCC thanked stakeholders who provided written submissions on the discussion paper and said consultations would start in 2023.
