THE Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) has released a brochure on product safety to increase awareness on potentially harmful goods being sold in PNG.

The brochure would help the commission ferret out questionable consumer products.

ICCC said the checklist allowed business and consumers to find out if certain products were unsafe.

Commissioner and chief executive Dr Billy Manoka said: “The ICCC has an important role to play in preventing potentially unsafe consumer goods from being sold in PNG.

“We want the public to know about products that can place them at risk of injury and even death.”

The brochure outlines ICCC’s role in product safety and helps readers to understand the powers of the commission and processes that enable it to remove questionable goods.

The ICCC has also released safety checklists on various products that could be accessed from the commission’s head office.

ICCC said an agreement with the National Institute of Standards and Industrial Technology (NISIT) and PNG Customs would help the commission put a check on bad consumer products.
