THE Independent Consumer and Competition Commission will be represented in Hela by an officer from the provincial administration.
This follows the signing of a deal between the ICCC and the Hela administration. The business development officer will monitor and enforcing the functions of the Commission, according to ICCC Commissioner Paulus Ain.
“The arrangement is a win-win outcome for both the ICCC and the Hela administration, particularly the business and consumers of the province,” Ain said.
“A minimum of one business development officer in the commerce division of the provincial administration will be formally recognised and resourced as the ICCC-appointed agent to perform the monitoring and enforcing power of the ICCC in collaboration with the ICCC’s Highlands regional office in Goroka.”
Ain told The National that there were plans to relocate the ICCC Goroka office to Mt Hagen.
“The arrangements have expanded the presence of ICCC in the province where it currently undertakes periodic monitoring and inspection but does not have permanent offices,” he said.
“The MoU has been in the planning stage and consultation phase since 2016 and the ICCC is excited to pilot this arrangement with the first three provinces that have already signed.”
