ICT watchdog re-elects Punaha

THE head of Papua New Guinea’s ICT regulator, Charles Punaha, has been re-elected as chairperson of the Suva-based regional body, Pacific ICT Regulatory Resource Centre (PIRRC).
Punaha was re-endorsed as PIRRC chair for a period of two years at the centre’s annual general meeting held recently on the margins of the inaugural Pacific broadband forum at the Sheraton Fiji Resort on Denarau Island.
Punaha is the chief executive officer of the National ICT Authority (Nicta) of PNG.
He had initially assumed the PIRRC chair on the resignation of the incumbent chairman last December.
“I am honoured to have the confidence of the members of PIRRC to continue to lead the steering committee for another two years,” Punaha said.
“Being a new organisation, we have our work cut out for us for the next 12 months.
“We will need to encourage more countries to join as members and we have to assure them that the PIRRC is here to assist them bring about better and fairer policies and regulations on ICT that are relevant to their countries.”
