MARKHAM MP and Deputy Speaker Koni Iguan says most bills and policies passed in Parliament are yet to be implemented, and encouraged public servants to drive these outcomes.
Iguan said this while witnessing his son, Denis, graduate among
the 388 students of the Pacific
Institute of Leadership and Governance (Pilag) in Port Moresby on Friday.
He was in attendance as a parent to witness his son’s graduation but was given an opportunity to speak.
He said as a politician he wished for his son to serve in the public service and had send him to Pilag straight after college.
“He is not a public servant, he hasn’t work in any field yet, and is straight out of school,” he said.
“I sent him to Pilag because I want him to be a good public servant.
“I told him, your father is a politician and so you must serve in
the public service to further the work.
Denis, 25, graduated with a diploma in human resource management.
He told The National that he took up the course to support his father’s work at the local level government and the district.
The younger Iguan said he thought it was a struggle as a fresh graduate taking up the courses with students who were already in the workforce.
“Most of the lessons and course are taught in the language of managers and chief executive officers, but with the help of my trainers and course mates I was able to finish my studies and I am grateful to them,” he said.
Iguan aimed to pursue his dream in the human resources field and encouraged young people that Pilag had provided opportunities for anyone who had a passion to serve the people.
