THE students and graduates association of Poroma lower level government in Southern Highlands ended a week-long awareness on the importance of education last Saturday.

The Poroma students and graduates visited major centres in the LLG and introduced the people to Christian values that would help their children to prosper in education.

Community leader David Kelei congratulated the team, who had worked tirelessly to educate the people on the importance of education, which many people did not pay much attention to.

“There are few students from the LLG attending tertiary institutions because the area was once a fighting zone and students’ education were deprived.

“Without proper funding by elected leaders and business houses, the students took the initiative to come back to the LLG and talk to their brothers and sisters on the importance of education, which is highly appreciated by the Poroma community,” he said.

Kelei said there was peace in a community when there were many educated elites and that also increased cash flow in the area.

“We cannot continue to hold on to past grudges. It is time we forgive and forget and work towards unity to achieve certain goals. Students are future leaders who will greatly contribute in nation building and we must support them,” he said.
