WOMEN should be given chances to take part in decision-making in Government, organisations or in the communities they live in, a women leader says.
Co-founder and interim director of the Waps (PNG) Sori Mama Association Betty Pyapao raised this concern at the association’s mobilisation meeting held last week at the Lamincon Lodge in Wapenamanda, Enga.
Pyapao described it as a first of its kind for the association to organise women groups in Wapenamanda to advocate on socio-economic issues affecting women and children.
She encouraged women that they had a potential and should not feel discouraged but faced the world and exercised their strength.
Pyapao said through the meeting, they hoped to strengthen and raise the standard of women at the community level to rise up and do what was best for their families, communities and the nation.
“This meeting’s aim is also to develop and raise standards of unfortunate people through alternate means of service delivery,” she said.
“When looking back, a mother is special. She gives birth to professionals, politicians, businessmen and women, and they play a major role in managing a family.”
Pyapao said women played a role in bringing the nation forward and the meeting was expected to encourage and educate women to know their standing within their families and societies.
“This is where you are to start your journey, you were born a women, it was not a mistake but you need to know how to become a part in the decision-making body because you know the skills of managing your family,” she said.
Wapenamanda MP Rimbink Pato expressed the same sentiments at the meeting.
Pato said he had always been an advocate for women and children.
He said his concern was that no women and children should be left behind in any developments and changes taking place.
