NEW Ireland is awaiting the delivery of a new fire truck from India, according to a statement from the provincial government.
It said the truck had modern equipment and tools to also do road rescue operations, similar to the ones donated by China for Apec.
The fire truck was handed over to Chief Fire Officer Bill Roo last Friday in the presence of New Irelands Governor’s first secretary William Poiya in Port Moresby.
New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan said the fire truck would greatly boost the capacity of the provincial fire service.
Sir Julius urged firemen to look after the fire truck.
The province has been fortunate not to have any major fire incidents in recent years but Sir Julius said they should take precautions regardless.
