Indonesia pledges support for PNG’s chairmanship

INDONESIA has pledged its support to Papua New Guinea during its tenure as chair of the Melanesia Spearhead Group.
Indonesia’s Asia, Pacific and African affairs director-general Desra Percaya led his country’s delegation at the MSG meeting at The Stanley Hotel and Suites in Port Moresby this week.
“Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to promote economic development in the Melanesia sub-region under the chairmanship of PNG in Melanesian Spearhead Group,” Percaya said.
He also mentioned the progress of Indonesia’s cooperation with the MSG during the foreign ministers’ meeting this week.
“Indonesia will also continue to promote cooperation in the field of marine, environment, research and community empowerment,” Percaya said.
“Indonesia also fully supports the proposal of the MSG Secretariat to implement the MSG corporate plan 2018-2020 as an effective way to achieve the ‘MSG 2038 prosperity for all’ plan.
“It also reminds us that members continue to carry out their mandate in accordance with the principles of the MSG establishment, including non-interference in other countries’ domestic affairs, especially those related to sovereignty.
“It is important for the MSG to focus on our shared goals.”
