FEMALE inmates at Bomana prison are reviving their food garden project and plan to sell what they produce at the new market in Gordon, Port Moresby.
Senior Inspector Agnes Kunjil of the prison’s women’s wing thanked the National Capital District Commission Gender Desk for giving them K5000 to start an onion farm. They will use the money to buy tools and seeds from Brian Bell. The tools include water sprinklers, a greenhouse shelter net and wheelbarrow.
Warders are drawing up a plan to rotate the woman inmates working at the farm. The commission will engage people to build a shelter for drying onions after the harvest. The commission has also set aside two tables at the new Gordon market for the inmates to sell their food.
