Innovative Agro Industry meets international standards

Business

THE Innovative Agro Industry PNG and partners have again achieved a milestone in the farming industry in the country.
The firm has been pioneering the modernisation of commercial agriculture practices in Papua New Guinea with the use of advanced Israeli farming technology and experience.
It has also reached internationally-recognised Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) safety standards in the poultry industry with its operations at Mount Fubilan in Western.
The HACCP is a preventative food safety system that takes stock of the hazards in food production.
It is a preventative food safety system in which every step in the manufacture, storage and distribution of a food product is scientifically analysed for microbiological, physical and chemical hazards.
The Innovative Agro Industry PNG Ltd has been working in partnership with the people of Western and the Ok Tedi Development Foundation to deliver a commercial poultry project in Tabubil since May 2017.
Construction on the poultry facility, which was developed to provide employment opportunities for mine affected villages in Western, was concluded by February 2018.
Chief executive officer of Innovative Agro Industry PNG, Lior Crystal said the team had been working towards the “important certification for Mount Fubilan”.
“We are the first fresh produce commercial farm in PNG to be granted this certification with our operation at the Nine-Mile Farm (Port Moresby) last year,” Crystal said.’
“Meeting international standards in food safety is something we take seriously to ensure Papua New Guinean produce is safe for both domestic consumption and international export, and our processes meet international standards.”
