Inspector pledges to improve schools

MOROBE’s Huon Gulf has a new school inspector who will be inspecting schools and teachers in Salamaua and Morobe local level governments (LLGs).
Rickson Kaban, the newly appointed school inspector, said that schools in the LLGs have been missing out on inspections, because only one inspector was assigned to look after the schools in the three LLGs (Wampar, Salamaua and Morobe).
Kaban said due to lack of inspection, the schools around Salamaua and Morobe had been missing out on benefitting from government’s education services and teachers have been missing classes which affected the students.
He then pledged that, with him now on board and assigned to look after Salamaua and Morobe, he would make sure teachers would be in class and schools would get infrastructure and facilities they lack.
Kaban has been visiting schools to see their operations, students and teachers’ attendance, along with the facilities and infrastructure they had in place.
“I will be inspecting teachers’ performance and progress along with the students and also to check if the community is looking after the teachers and schools,” he said.
“I will then report straight to the Education Secretary, Dr Uke Kombra.
“If the school is not operating as expected, then we can suspend schools.
“We will inspect and advise teachers to perform well to raise the education standard in the district.”
Kaban said to work with teachers, board of management, the community and students to raise the standard of schools in the LLGs.
“Generally speaking, for the two LLGs, they are still struggling with education which we have to work together,” he said.
Teachers’ theme for this year states “Transforming teaching and learning through quality education,” which Kaban said they would have to perform to improve.
