THE Justin Tkatchenko Nines Tournament in Moresby South received K3,000 support on Thursday from International Training Institute (ITI) as part of the institution’s corporate social responsibility programme.
ITI chairman and co-founder Senthil Kumaran Sentheyval said this was the first time the institution supported rugby league.
“This is the first time ever ITI is supporting rugby league. We usually support cricket, soccer and volleyball but not rugby,” Sentheyval said.
“This time we see that more young people are playing rugby and the fact that Papua New Guineans are rugby league fanatics, so we decided to show our support.”
He said the support would continue in the future and they started in Badili.
“This support plays a vital part in engaging youths through sports and ITI is more than happy to bring rugby league on board this year,” Sentheyval said.
“We would like to just contribute so that the tournament committee can use the funds in any way they needed to which eventually created avenue for youths to focus on sports rather than other illegal activities; we will also look at other areas and competitions as well.”
