Institute gets new equipment

THE PNG Education Institute in Port Moresby early last month received timely equipment to assist its EQUITV programme being implemented to trainee teachers that the school trains.

Enhancing Quality in Teaching through TV programme (EQUITV Programme) is to enhance teaching and learning in classroom through utilising TV programmes.

Department of Education and JICA have been carrying out the programme since 2005. 

Phase 2 Project, Project for Enhancing Access and Capacity of EQUITV programme started in May 2012.

Akinori Ito, project leader – EQUITV Phase 2 Project – handed over the training equipment to Papua New Guinea Education Institution (PNGEI) DEPI manager Jenny Kome, on July 31.

The equipment consisted of a TV, a TV rack, a DVD player, power control equipment and a generator all valued around K10,000. 

Ito said: “PNGEI has involved with the EQUITV programme since the beginning of the programme to contribute towards developing teacher training programs, resource materials, monitoring and training. 

“Since 2012, PNGEI has also been supporting the development of EQUITV teachers college module, a new intervention of disseminating EQUITV program in primary teachers colleges.”
