MOTOR Vehicles Insurance Ltd (MVIL) has a record of more than 500,000 vehicles across the country in their system, says executive manager, operations, Helen Koka.
Koka said every year they had printed out compulsory third party (CTP) insurance and registration sticker for 120,000 to 130,000 vehicles across the country.
“These are the records we keep from the vehicle owners who come through the proper process, but others are still using the public roads without getting the CTP and registration,” she said.
She said vehicle owners do not follow the process, instead they print fake stickers somewhere and claim that their vehicles were roadworthy.
She said they had sent out the warning to fraudsters involved in producing false documents to stop as they would be punished once caught by police. Meanwhile, MVIL chief executive officer Michael Makap said over last three years, they have spent a lot of resources to have 27 branches in the country who can accept claims and give out CTP stickers to vehicle owners.
Makap said registration was a delegated task from the provincial government and not their core function, as they only gave out the CTP insurance stickers after inspections were done successfully.
He added that they were printing vehicles registrations and CTP insurance in all the provinces except Morobe and Milne Bay.
