PAPUA New Guinea should intensify its preparations towards preventing the coronavirus, Covid-2019, from entering its shores, World Health Organisation country representative Dr Luo Dapeng said.
Speaking during the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) national press club yesterday, Dapeng stressed that proper preparations were crucial in this global health emergency and there was more to be done in the country.
He said according to WHO’s last situation report on Feb 16, 51,857 confirmed cases were reported globally.
He said 51,174 cases were from China, with 1,666 deaths.
He said 25 countries outside of China were affected with 683 reported cases and two deaths.
“So far 99 per cent of the cases are in China and two-thirds of the cases in China are in the Hubei province,” he said.
