OVER 100 teams have expressed their interests to participate in the Southern Region Rugby League Nines tournament scheduled for December, Sportz Events manager Solomon Ravu says.
Ravu said the tournament, scheduled for Dec 11-15, was shelved for two years between 2020-2021 because of Covid-19.
“All teams are looking forward to this tournament to end the rugby league season and celebrate Christmas and New Year period,” he said.
The registration fee is K1,300.
Ravu said defending champions – Colin Geno’s Siporo Magpies would be out to defend their title.
“This is the moment the Aroma Coast teams are waiting for as their skills and speed ignite the crowd from day one of the competition,” Ravu said.
He said the event was only for Southern region teams and extended invitations to Central, Gulf, Western, Milne Bay and Northern.
The competition manager said teams should adhere to the tournament’s eligibility rules when registering players.
He said offenders would be removed from the competition.
“We are trying to promote, expose and identify our potential talent from the region and this is an opportunity for them.
“Our tourney is not about winning cash prizes but to tap into the mass grassroots talent from the rural settings.”
He said a venue was yet to be confirmed.
