Investigate Waigani Primary School

FOR the last three years, the Waigani primary school seems to be operating like a private school.

The education department must investigate the school board management as parents and citizens are not happy with the way the school is managed.

I have observed the school to be in disarray as teachers and parents as stakeholders do not seem to cooperate well during those three years because there is a lack of forum or meetings held to express their views to the mandated school board.

What the parents have received was only a defensive letter authored by the so-called ‘board chairman’ who wants to stay in power.

Who mandated him to operate his business in the school, no one knows.

The so called ‘chairman’ continuous presence is also illegal as the parents never nominated him.

If the chairman is in a conflict of interest by allowing his private firms to do maintenance, then he has to step down because the parents and citizens never gave him the permission to do so.

He wants to be the authority figure in school boasting of his contributions and since the headmaster is absent from school throughout the year, this out-of-the-blue chairman is even hungrier to step in as an opportunity for him to be the headmaster.

Can the education department immediately assess the situation at Waigani primary school before it gets worse?

There is no command in control because the chairman seems to be overruling the school’s decisions without the parents’ consent or without the department’s approval.
