Investing in machinery

A LOCAL level government (LLG) in Western Highlands has bought a new excavator for K924,000 to maintain feeder roads leading into 48 wards.
Mul LLG invested in the excavator to upgrade roads to wards where more than 80,000 people live.
The LLG also bought a dump truck for K62,000 and two motorcycles for public servants to use.
LLG president Nathan Wantape said the funding came from the previous government, which allocated K500,000 to the LLG for two years, and because of the failed election in 2013 the money was left in the account.
He said they decided to purchase the excavator and the dump truck for maintenance work because roads were in poor condition.
Wantape said after he was elected unopposed last year, he decided to form a team with the 48 ward councillors to work together.
He said the councillors came up with “Mul one” which would remind them to put aside their differences and work as a team.
“We need everyone to cooperate, share ideas and work towards lighting up our communities and leading the people forward,” Wantape said.
He said under his LLG plans and vision, roads became one of his major concerns.
“My people are subsistence farmers so I need to make sure they have better roads to use.”
