INVESTING in quality infrastructures and utilities is one of the key priorities of the Government under the third medium term development plan (MTDP III 2018-2022), National Planning and Monitoring Minister Richard Maru says.
Maru told Parliament yesterday that the Government would invest substantially in key and critical infrastructures as it was fundamental to enhance other social and economic growth.
“Government will invest substantially in key and critical infrastructures to reduce costs of doing business, building resilience to natural disasters and expand and stimulate economic growth throughout the country,” he said.
Maru said key infrastructure projects included the rehabilitation of the Highlands Highway, development of Mamose Highway, Central to Milne Bay highway, Morobe to Gulf Highway, Baiyer to Madang Highway, Gulf to Southern Highlands Highway, new international wharves in Wewak, Kikiri, Vanimo and Manus, Nadzab Airport redevelopment and other major projects.
“Development of renewable energy will also be undertaken by the Government in partnership with the private sector to provide much-needed reliable and affordable electricity service to people and various economic activities,” Maru said.
He said quality infrastructure and utilities was second of the eight key priority areas in the MTDP III. The first is to increase revenue and wealth creation.
