FOREIGN business executives in Madang have been advised to restrict their movements after police received information that criminals are planning to kidnap them for ransom.
Provincial police commander Chief Insp Anthony Wagambie Jr said the criminals were also believed to be eyeing the executives’ family members.
He said these criminals were less keen on robberies because police were now more vigilant.
“Although we are short of manpower, my men are committed and have arrested many suspects. So they (the criminals) are taking a different approach,” he said.
He gave an assurance that the police were aware of the threat and were keeping a close watch on the situation.
“However, expatriates business executives, business owners and their families should restrict their movements and take precautions particularly at  night.”
Insp Wagambie said the public must co-operate with the police to help maintain law and order and must not harbour criminals. He said anyone with information should contact the police.
