Bhosip Kaiwi’s lawyer Emmanuel Ellison yesterday told State witness Rachael Ipang, the baby-sitter and Jenelyn Kennedy’s best friend, that she had lied in her two statements to police.
“You said when you went into the room, you saw pliers, screw drivers and kitchen knife, and some clothes with blood stains,” Ellison told Ipang.
“That means you lied in your statement to police on June 24, 2020, saying that you saw blood stains on the pliers, screw drivers and kitchen knife.”
Ipang admitted that she saw the tools with blood stains and put them in the cupboard.
“I didn’t see with my eyes Bhosip assaulting Jenelyn with the tools but I only saw those tools in their room when I went to clean it,” she said.
Kaiwi, from Minj village in South Waghi, Jiwaka, who allegedly assaulted his wife Kennedy, over a five-day period (June 18-22, 2020) at their Korobosea home in Port Moresby, before acting Judge Laura Wawun-Kuvi, pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder.
Ellison told Ipang she also lied in her statement to police that on June 23, 2020, at 7am, she went to check her Nasfund statement.
“You told the court that on June 23, 2020, at 7am, you prepared the bottle milk for the baby and went to Murray Barracks,” he said.
“You said Elizabeth (doctor), after treating Jenelyn and left, Bhosip started assaulting her, and three times he came to your room.
“One of the three times, he came putting his other hand to his back and asked you ‘how many times have you guys met Shaun Nicholas’.
“In your other statement to police on July 29, 2020, you said all these events happened two weeks before June 23, 2020. So that means your story where Bhosip assaulted Jenelyn and then came to your room were all lies.”
Ipang said it was true.
Ellison told Ipang that she lied in her statement to police on June 24, 2020, when she said Bhosip assaulted Jenelyn after he had asked Ipang to boil water and take it to the bathroom.
“But you told the court that after they came out of the bathroom, they went straight into the room and slept, there was no noise until next day (June 23, 2020),” he told Ipang.
“In your statement to police on June 24, 2020, you said Bhosip assaulted Jenelyn until 3am.”
Ipang said it was true that he assaulted her until 3am. She also said that what she gave to the police on June 24, 2020, and July 29, 2020, were true.
Ipang said she understood the statement before she signed it.
“What I gave to the police is true,” she said.
Ellison further said that what happened in June 22, 2020, on some of those events were exaggerated.
“Because the events, as stated in her statement, had happened two weeks before June 23, 2020,” he said.
“No, it’s not true,” Ipang said.
Ipang’s evidence has been completed. The trial continues with more witnesses.
